What are Veneers?

Veneers are thin shells placed on top of your natural teeth. This allows them to instantly cover your concerns to improve the overall color, size, and shape of your teeth. They look like your enamel to create natural-looking results you’ll want to show off.

After your initial consultation, you’re scheduled for the first phase of your treatment. Your teeth are cleaned, and their surfaces are lightly etched to ensure a strong bond between the veneers and your enamel. Dr. Hadad will take impressions of your mouth, which the dental lab will use to make your veneers. This can take a couple of weeks, so we’ll attach temporary ones while you wait. Once your permanent veneers are sent back to our office, you’ll return to have them applied to your teeth.

Veneers FAQs

dentist speaking to patient about veneers in Brownstown

Even after reading through all the information given above, you may still have some lingering questions about getting veneers in Brownstown. They’re an excellent treatment option that can address several aesthetic issues at once, but they’re not an ideal solution for every patient. Before committing to anything, it’s crucial to be well-informed so you can confidently move forward with the process. To help you out, we’ve decided to respond to some of the most common questions we get from patients. If you don’t see your specific question below, contact our team at Ultimate Dental for an answer!

Are Veneers Permanent?

Since veneers will eventually have to be replaced, they’re technically not considered permanent. However, the process for getting them is irreversible. Dr. Hadad will need to remove a thin layer of enamel from your teeth to ensure the veneers fit properly. But unlike hair and nails, the enamel will never grow back once it’s filed away. For that reason, the prepared teeth will always need to be covered with veneers or crowns.

Is There Anything I Can’t Eat with Veneers?

After your teeth are prepared, you’ll receive temporary veneers to use in the meantime while you wait for your permanent ones to be made. Since they won’t be bonded permanently to your teeth, you’ll need to avoid hard foods (ice, raw fruits and vegetables, candy, etc.) and sticky foods (caramel, dried fruit, gummy candy, etc.). They can easily damage your restorations. Luckily, you won’t need to exercise as much caution once your permanent veneers are in place. However, it’s still a good idea to be careful with sticky, dark-colored, crunchy, hot, or cold foods and drinks as they can damage or stain your veneers. Be sure to drink alcohol sparingly as it can weaken the bonding material holding your restorations in place.

Is It Painful to Get Veneers?

You shouldn’t feel any pain during veneer placement because your mouth will be numb with a local anesthetic. When the temporary veneers are attached, you might experience mild sensitivity and pain. It’s worth noting that post-treatment discomfort is more likely to occur when multiple veneers are being placed. While two to four veneers typically cause little to no pain, eight or more can lead to soreness in the gums and jaw. Some patients report feeling sensitivity following veneer placement. Luckily, you can manage any discomfort you experience with pain medication and saltwater rinses.

Can Dental Insurance Cover Veneers?

Veneers are almost always considered a cosmetic procedure, which is why they normally do not qualify for insurance coverage. If the restorations are considered medically necessary, there’s a chance your dental insurance plan may provide benefits. Of course, Dr. Hadad would have to help you establish the medical necessity of the veneers. In most cases, they’re only deemed necessary when the seal holding the old veneer has deteriorated to the point where plaque can accumulate under it more easily, increasing your risk of decay. For help understanding your coverage, contact your insurance carrier or ask to speak to a member of our team.
